About the Resource

An original script based on Sophocles’ classic tale.  It has been tailor made for Year 11 students and is suitable for Edexcel Unit 3 / AQA Unit 2 Acting option or any BTEC Acting Unit. It would also be suitable for enthusiastic KS3 students.

Antigone is forbidden to bury the body of her brother by King Creon, her Uncle. What will she do? How will her story end? Being a Greek tragedy, you can probably guess, and the logo of this resource is a bit of a giveaway too.

It has flexible casting but works particularly well for 7 – 9 students (different castings supplied for 7, 8 and 9 actors). Performance time equally flexible: 35 - 45 minutes.

In this adaption the conventions of classic Greek theatre - choral speaking and story-telling on a grand scale -  are used with modern idiom and dramatic techniques to produce a great ensemble piece. Developed characters will allow your students to perform at the highest level. An exciting chorus & plenty of comedic moments to balance the tragedy.

This is a great play for Post 16 and youth theatre as well as Year 11.

There is also a guide to performance.
