About the Resource

This scheme consists of 6 x 1 hour (approx) lessons that explore the history and performance style of Melodrama. Pupils will learn about Victorian Melodrama by bringing to life different stock characters, acting out typical Melodrama style scripts (supplied) as well as creating their own silent movies. These detailed and comprehensive plans include PowerPoints and resources to develop pupils' performance skills and understanding of a different theatre tradition. Activities include a stock character photo shoot, experimental voice work as the damsel, hero and villain, and creating reaction shots to complement their silent movies.

PowerPoint slide samples are shown on the left. The resource is supplied in Word format to enable you to customise it to your own requirements. Support materials include music, music links, three PowerPoint presentations, script extracts and assessment opportunities.

This is written for KS3 or KS4 and would be especially suitable for students who are starting their GCSE in Year 9.

Each of the six lessons is written to the format shown on the sample lesson - click here.
