About the Resource

Fitzgerald is a hotel investor. Whilst driving his car he happens, by chance, to stumble on the abandoned Darkwood Manor. Immediately he sees the property’s potential and tours the village to find out more about the manor. However, the locals are secretive and reluctant to talk. Those few who dare to recount their tales offer up stories of macabre goings on and dastardly tales: the tragic accident in the 1950s, the deaths of the jealous sisters in the 1920s, the mad soldier running amok in the Civil War, the return of the plague in the 14th century, and the sinister purpose of the ancient foundation stone. But Fitzgerald refuses to believe these ‘rumours’ and makes a decision that will ultimately cost him dear.

Darkwood Manor is a large cast play providing a diverse mix of roles and variety of different sized parts. Several parts can be played by either gender and there is opportunity for supporting students to play in the ensemble as the phantoms. The piece utilises a variety of inventive theatrical devices and can be produced on any sized budget. The running time is around 1 hour 20 minutes.
