About the Resource

You’ve worked hard at developing students group skills and work ethic in the class room and have developed their basic skills so that they are ready to use these to explore an issue through drama.

This detailed scheme is ideal for new drama teachers as well as experienced ones as it provides detailed instructions through the eight flexible lessons which are set out in 5 Blocks and accompanied by 9 resources over 34 pages. It can be covered over half a term to a term.

Mia is an ordinary teenager with ordinary parents. She loves Dance to the extent that other areas of her life have suffered. This has led to conflict and a whole set of dilemma’s.

The scheme allows students to make use their drama skills such as still image , thought tracking, improvisation, hot-seating, marking the moment to explore, create and develop characters and drama whilst exploring the issues involving Mia. They allow students to develop empathy over a range of issues and characters as well as reflect strongly to problem solve real life situations. There are also plenty of opportunities to perform and develop performance skills.

The scheme also introduces students to soundscapes, angel and devil, abstract drama and writing out of role. The extension activities allow further development of characters, situations, issues and conventions such as monologue.

Soft skills such as Personal Thinking and Learning Skills, group work, trust and confidence as well as literacy and numeracy are also developed throughout the unit in a range of ways.

Finally this scheme of work develops the range of issue-based exploration required by many GCSE syllabi.
