About the Resource

CRIMINAL MARTYRS imagines a world where young offenders are placed in stasis for their crimes as object lessons. However, the main focus of the play is on the stories behind the crimes and considers why each individual case might be different and poses the question “Could this be you?”

This is an episodic performance piece for nine actors that has been successfully used for Edexcel GCSE performance exams. There is significant multi-roling which seems very popular with the exam boards at the moment although the characters are all quite distinct. The nine actors all have to play a variety of characters who have important roles to play. The play was designed to answer that annual problem of students who think their part isn’t big enough. Whilst there are some central figures everybody gets a chance to be part of significant moments. The characters can be changed to fit male or female roles.

It has simple staging with simple costumes that should reflect the characters and a very few props.
