About the Resource

A fast paced, dark telling of Red Riding Hood presented in constrained verse.

Red is sent to her Grandmother’s to deliver a parcel but encounters a suited Wolf on the way. She escapes from his licking caress, only to find he has beaten her to her destination. Unlike some versions, Red is not saved by a man. She solves her problem herself.

This play is scripted for three with all players enjoying a combination of narrative and direct speech. There are unlimited opportunities for imaginative physicality. Some lines, and continuing rhythm, are split between characters.

The piece runs at around fifteen minutes, making it an ideal piece for a strong group of three for GCSE. However it is also a tremendous piece for exploring atmosphere, physicality and heightened language for Key Stage 4 / 5 students.

The only essential prop is a chair.

A sample of the script can downloaded here; the sample includes staging suggestions. Sample is in PDF format; the full script is supplied in both Word and PDF formats.
